Mobile banking in 2015 – what will it be like? This challenge was given to me a few days ago. Well, to be more specific the challenge was actually to give some examples and provides som trends that might strongly influence mobile banking in the years to come.

So, over the last few days this has been occupying my mind. What have I found so far? Actually a lot. What have I learned? Even more. To keep it short and simple. The first thing I discovered, is that mobile banking has been the new buzz word the last year, but when most banks speak about SMS banking, i.e that is banking services solved/performed by SMS. Like checking your account status on the go. Some banks even has a wap interface, and now a steadly growing number even has made an iphone interface for their banking services. Another reflection I have made is that when speaking of mobile banking to many this is refering to a new infrastrucutre now being built and increasingly adopted, by banks and the population, in african countries.

What have this then told me? Actually it have raised one important question. What is mobile banking? Even more important. Is there a point in speaking about mobile banking. Isn’t it, at least now after the iPhone revolution, only a matter of being able to make online banking services available on smaller devices? If so, the challenge is actually the repack the now very extensive online banking offer from most banks. And by that making these services usable on iPhone like devices. I believe that the mobile bank winner in 2015 will be the bank that are able to adapt thiere ordinary online serives to mobile devices and letting these two channels build on each other – making everyday banking easier for you and me. To give you an excample. My bank offer my a super overview of my business with them. This I get to see everytime I log on… How about acctully offering me a iPhone like app that I can carry with me on my mobile at every hour accessing by a touch and view – real time – status.

Here is some of the stuff that I came over…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAcMb2tfgGk

Learning by following sounds strange. Or, perhaps not. With all the new tools and opportunities that WEB 2.0 have provided, I believe that learning by following will only grow in the years to come.

To day I read about Twitter Professors. I my self have only just started using twitter as one of my learning, as well as, sharing tools. So far I have been focused on following rss feeds to collect insights (my favourit reader is Bloglines) and internal “newsletters” published on the intranet to share the insight collected. This have worked fine, though a bit manual since I can’t show my rss feeds directly on our intranet. So far my solution has been subscriptions lists and email alerts.

The first challenge is to identify the sources valubale to you, the second is to work through them systematically, the third, and most challenging, is to identify the relevance and consequnce to your organisation, and finaly knowing and convincing the right desicion maker.
